Here's my 'Why"

I've always been fascinated by people; what shapes us, what helps us heal, and what allows us to keep moving forward through life's challenges. Working alongside individuals during moments of uncertainty has shown me that people are often far more resilient than they realize. I believe meaningful change begins when people feel genuinely heard, understood, and empowered to recognize their own strengths.

As a Black woman and immigrant, I also understand how important it is to feel seen and represented within helping spaces. My long-term goal is to become a psychotherapist, and every opportunity to learn, serve, and grow brings me one step closer to supporting others in creating lives that feel authentic, purposeful, and hopeful.

My Best Hopes For You

I hope every person I interact with feels respected, encouraged, and more hopeful than when we first met. Whether through therapy in the future or the work I do today, my goal is to help people recognize their strengths, gain confidence in their own abilities, and move toward lives that feel more aligned with who they want to become.

Life will always have challenges, but I hope people leave our interactions feeling more capable of navigating them with greater clarity, self-compassion, and confidence in themselves.

My Training and Approach

More than Just Work

I hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Waterloo and currently work as an Employment Specialist, supporting individuals navigating career transitions, employment barriers, and significant life changes. Through this work, I've developed experience in strengths-based practice, motivational interviewing, collaborative goal setting, and helping people recognize and build on the strengths they already possess. My other credentials include a CYSW, CDP and then hopefully a Masters!

Outside of my professional role, I've volunteered in crisis support, youth mentoring, and community outreach. My volunteer experiences include serving as a Crisis Hotline Supervisor with the Certified Listeners Society during the COVID-19 pandemic, mentoring through Big Brothers Big Sisters, and supporting food, hygiene, and household initiatives through my local church.

As part of the Resilient Roots Therapy team, I'm excited to contribute through website development, social media, resource organization, and administrative support while continuing to learn about private practice and deepen my understanding of Solution-Focused Therapy.

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and creating high-protein recipes, volunteering in my community, and continuously learning. I'm passionate about improving systems, making information easier to understand, and using technology to create more efficient workflows. I also enjoy reading, exploring psychology, career development, and personal growth, and I'm always looking for new ways to learn and contribute.

How would I define Resilience?

Resilience reminds me of the roots of a tree. While growth above the surface is what everyone notices, it's the unseen roots that provide stability, nourishment, and strength through every season. Growth often begins quietly, long before anyone else can see it.

The best piece of advice I've ever received is that comparison is the thief of joy. Everyone's journey unfolds differently, and lasting fulfillment comes from focusing on becoming a better version of yourself rather than measuring your progress against someone else's.
